revisiting Tbilisi

a lot of things have changed since my last visit in 1997.
so I revisited some places after 14 years.

Tbilisi State Concert Hall 1997
it has been renovated and an fast food restaurant is at the entry level

teleferic station off Rustaveli gamziri, already not working anymore in 1997, the beautiful building is in bad shape and not even accessible anymore
_______

Hotel Iveria, back then home of refugees from Abchasia, now bought by radisson hotel chain and not recognisable anymore

first impressions of the Georgian capital

we arrive in Tbilisi at 7 in the morning.
the train station is being transformed into a shopping mall, but the platforms are in a bad shape.
we take a taxi home and I am cordially received by my family

night train to Tbilisi

we took a two-bed sleeper on the night train to Tbilisi

arriving in Georgia - Batumi

my cousin picked me up at the border and we took a minibus to Batumi,
the biggest port of Georgia and the summer destination for people from Tbilisi.
it is being transformed to a number one seaside resort, but still far from that.

and that's where the eating begins

first contact with Khachapuri (the adjarian one)
and Khinkali, and not the last...

Hopa to the Georgian border

arriving in Hopa on the Black Sea, the Bus dropped me at the junction.
the town is not very pleasant and I hurry to find a minibus that takes me to the border.
but before I get invited for tea by a nice Turkish man and we have a conversation without understanding each other.

through the Georgian valleys

as there is no train connection between Turkey and Georgia, I had to take a bus to the Black sea.
the road leads through the Georgian valleys with impressing deep gorges. (this was formerly Georgian territory)

a beautiful day makes it easy to get up early

changing means of transport
having a tea break
construction for the railway line to Batumi

interesting starters. Hummus, eggplants diffent styles and brain.
